Special Concert: "Wituski’s Legend"
Cordially welcome to "Wituski’s
Legend", an extraordinary artistic event to mark 80th birthday of Andrzej Wituski, an outstanding inhabitant of
the Wielkopolska province. The concert will be held at the University Auditorium in Poznań
at 6:00 p.m. on 11 March 2012.
The opening Concerto Grosso "La folia" by the Italian composer and violin virtuoso Francesco Geminiani will be followed by the world premiere performance of H. Wieniawski’s “Legende” arranged by Agnieszka Duczmal. One of the most popular compositions by the illustrious Polish virtuoso, its simple construction, somewhat sentimental melodic quality, and richness of the violin sound make the piece’s reception a truly pleasant experience, while its great emotional charge appeals to vast and varied audiences. J. S. Bach’s Double Violin Concerto, the Baroque master’s excellent tour de force, takes the listener to the 18th century. Redolent of Hungarian rhapsody, “Tzigane” by Maurice Ravel stylistically refers to Gypsy music.
